Halloween 2008

Happy "Trick or Treating" Day! Here's the "Unknown Fathom" and a very reluctant "King Alex"! Alex is mad because he was made to wear a costume!

The 4-H annual fund raiser was held tonight downtown, along with the community trick or treating; half the town always shows up - its great to see everyone in costume all in the same place!
The 4-H'ers always have a Taco Stack-Up for the public. There was a good turn out, even if we had an away football game in Friona.

The boys received way-too-much candy! I'm hiding at least half of it... candy wrappers will be everywhere! Also included is baby Grace's 1st Halloween picture - is she not the sweetest pumpkin? Her smile says it all! The boys insisted that I also include her pic on this post - hope you don't mind P.C.!! My boys LOVE this baby girl! Hope your family have a great weekend!

THE LAST PROJECT

Ta-dum! (drum roll please!) The #1 project in the count down 'til Halloween is Aric's Halloween Box Treats! Yea! It's Halloween!! I got this template from my SU Demonstrator - (Hey Steph!); we used orange cardstock for the base. Aric stamped in black all kinds of Halloween icons and then we scored and folded it- added a black "belly band" and "button" (every belly has a button, right?!?!) Kyle had the job of dividing out the candy and helping Aric put it in the boxes!
This was fun! Hope you enjoyed all 13 projects!! I'm taking all the treats to school to give away to the teachers for Halloween and TGIF! Please have a safe time and
Happy Halloween!

Aric's Chocolate Monsters!

Aric is all into making treats for his fellow classmates!  We have made "Chocolate Monsters" tonight - finding out the day before the celebration (because my husband forgot the message of me taking something chocolate to the party...) - we came up with mini chocolate donuts topped with chocolate frosting - wintergreen lifesaver eyes topped with frosting and M&M candies.  Kyle came up with a candy corn nose and Aric added the red hot mouth!!  Well, it's got some chocolate!  They turned out cute and we had fun making them!
Hope these little boogers like 'em!  Tomorrow is Halloween!  BOO!

Aric's Favorite Halloween Costumes!

This post is for my youngest son, Aric Nelson! Happy Halloween! He would rather answer the door and give out the candy, than go out Trick 'n Treating! He loves to decorate for holidays! We'll be carving out pumpkins tonight and he'll come up with a wild design! Aric is a very unique kid! He looks like his daddy and acts like his momma! (1999 - Mouse; 2000 - Lion; 2001 - Colt "Payton" Football Player; 2004 - Power Ranger; 2005-Luke Skywalker; 2006 - Dash; 2007 - TTU Masked Rider)

#2 Count Down 'til Halloween Projects

Here is the SLIDE BOX TREAT for project #2 in counting down 'til Halloween Projects.  If you like the snack size peanut butter cup - this treat is for you!  This was also a popular treat over the web - Here's Debbie's take on this project here and it will include a link to Chris's blog - OMG! This woman has the "box" template down - in ALL sizes.  I was impressed!  Here's the link to all those templates (if your interested)!  Hope you had a great Thursday!

"Black Out"

"Black Out" was the Spirit Dress-Up day theme! It was very "surreal"  to look at every student all dressed in black at the high school! One "emo" student who ALWAYS dresses in his daily black - wore totally white clothes today!! hahaha We had PRIDE day in the yard with "Flyin' Fajitas" and the kids played corn toss. It was a beautiful day. Had to take a picture of the teachers in the lounge during lunch! We're all in black - but HEY! We have spirit! I love these special people! Just wanted to share! Have a great day!

Alex's Favorite Halloween Costumes!

This is a post of Alex's Halloween costumes throughout the years. He says that this year he will not dress up... that Jr. High kids do NOT dress up... we shall see! Can you tell that we love to dress up? Kyle and I STILL dress up - so I hope this will inspire Alex to continue on...ah, you only live once - have fun! Not bad fun - good fun! (1999 - Blue's Clues; 2000 - Bumble Bee; 2001 - Johnny Appleseed; 2002 - Robot; 2003 - Vampire; 2004 - Elvis; 2006- Darth Vader)

#3 Count Down 'til Halloween Projects

Pixie Stix anyone?  Here are the giant stix ready for a Halloween party!  Halloween Stix is project #3 in the Count Down.  This was a pretty popular treat to make - found it all over the web.  Here is Angie's project here and Eileen's Pixie Stix treat box is super cute here!  These treats are for Aric's 3rd grade Halloween Celebration (can't say PARTY at school ): ) on Friday. The big C-town did NOT have one package of pixie sticks big or little - I had a wonderful student's mom pick me up some in the city.  She got me the giant ones - won't the 3rd graders just love these!  Hope so!  Two more projects - then... turkey time! hahaha!  Hope you're having a great week!

Andy's Favorite Halloween Costumes

Oh my! As I was scanning in the pictures, TRYING to make a decision of which photos to post... how fast the time has flown by. Where is my baby - "andy-candy"? Wow! For all of you that have small children - hold them tight - it doesn't take long before they are gone; for you others that have grown children (grown? ) you know exactly what I mean. Happy Halloween! (1990 - Puppy; 1993-Spider; 1995-Waldo; 1996-Tombstone; 1997-Scarecrow; 1998-Grim Ripper; 2006-BoBo the Clown)

#4 Count Down 'til Halloween Projects

"Spider Mint-u-licious" is Project #4 in the Count Down 'til Halloween!  An easy "punch" craft with no stamping!  This was a case project from Rochelle here. (Oct. 16 post)  Too cute not to share!  This was an easy project - something you could make for the whole class or office staff!  A snack-size York mint, paper, glue, some paper punches and -boom!  Mint sandwich "SPIDERS"!  Eek - how scary!  Only 3 more projects to go!  Hope your week is going well - tomorrow is "hump" day!  Hope you have a GREAT one!

"Happy Accident"

Move over Chanel, Prada, Calvin Klein - a new designer is in town!  Well,  may not a "designer"?!?

Do you know Bob Ross - the "fro headed painter from the 70's" who actually
calms and soothes the audience as you watch him paint?  He always made "happy accidents" - to make what might be considered an
accident and create something good from it!  (We have a lot of these in the art classroom also)
Well, as I was cleaning bathrooms right before my meeting Monday night, I used a cleanser that contained bleach... (did I look at this BEFORE I used it? No, of course not!)  Here I am in my nice clothes and I had an accident with bleach on my black sweater!  Got it on my pants too - but can't figure out something for those!  So!
Today - I took the sweater outside along with my new BLEACH cleanser and
added a bunch more sprinkles to create my new look for a sweater - that I was going to throw away! What do you think?  Maybe not great, but I think I'll wear it... so if you see me in this
 - don't laugh TOO loud!  I'm trying to be frugal!  Yeah, right!

#5 Count Down 'til Halloween Projects

Who doesn't love chocolate? #5 Halloween Project is The Treat Tin.  This tin is full of the Hershey nuggets wrapped in Halloween paper!  "Easy Peasy" for anyone!  7/8" x 1-1/2 designer paper wrapped around the nugget.  You can order these tins here - but beware; you gotta buy it bulk!  Hang on - 4 more Halloween projects!

Monday Night TEELA meeting

Monday night was our monthly TEELA meeting.  I had the honor of hosting and providing the Fall Program.  Poor ladies, they were so gracious and patience doing Halloween treats!  "What else would I do for a program"?  They were so sweet!  Each one made a Fall Post-It Note holder, Halloween Treat Bag and a Halloween Card.
We munched on Taco Soup, tortilla chips, left-over cheese ball and spinach balls (from the Food Show!!) and brownies (from the bakery!  hey, it was a looooong weekend - can't do everything!)  These ladies are super special!  They were kind enough to look over my not-so-perfect house.  Who can clean house and run all over town chasing kids?  Thank God for Debra my housekeeper - she is worth gold to me!  The Taco Soup is listed over on Andy's recipe on the left - it was okay - Kyle complained about too many tomatoes (but one tomato is too many for him!)  This fall weather is great for warm soups!  Hope you have a great week!

#6 Count Down 'til Halloween Projects

Here's another Halloween Card for #6 on the Count Down 'til Halloween Project.  Also one that I'm going to use Monday night for my program!  Love this SU Halloween stamp!  It's a black embossed image - so the ladies can use a blender pen with pastels or colored pencils or markers to add some color - or not all - just plain!  Hope everyone is staying warm!

4-H County Food Show

Sunday was the county 4-H Food Show.  The boys did a great job!  Both will be going to District Food Show in November - we've got a LOT of studying to do to compete with 23 other counties that are in our district!  Traditional, we make a big "mind-map" and study each night - it's amazing what the mind can recall over and over.  I'm a huge believer in the method of "mind mapping"!!  Wish I had it when I was in school - (that's all for another post later, huh!)
The boys' Food Show recipes are on the left side of the blog - if ya want to try them out!  Wonder if I'll ever stop dressing them alike?  Andy, do I need to send your outfit now or just wait for Christmas? hahahaha!  Can't believe we finally made it to Sunday - this has been a loooong week and weekend!  I need a vacation!
