Geocaching in Childress, Texas

What is "GEOCACHING"?
We had NO idea - until Friday.  As we were making a visit to our local cemetary - we ran into our good friends "Mr & Mrs L" with their family - and they were searching for an object.  They shared with us what they were doing - searching for a GEOCACHE!  We were totally intrigued...  so I'm sharing with you, because it's SO COOL!  It's like a treasure hunt...using your GPS... something that is happening all over the world!   Here's a video to explain a quick intro of what geocaching is... or check out the website for more information or to "sign up" and join the fun!  Geocaching.com
So!  After searching on the web; Finding out that there are 885,755 active geocaches around the world TODAY!  That there were 6 (yes! six) geocaches hidden just within 5 miles of us - here in "Hickville, USA" - as "some" people think of us!!  LOL!  We had to try it out!  So, Saturday was declared our "Family Adventure Day" to try out GEOCACHING.
We had a BLAST! This is something that the WHOLE FAMILY can do and it doesn't cost any $$$ - how cool is that?  My boys LOVED it - and we did too!  It was an "adventure" searching for the cache!   We found 5 out of 6 geocaches and have plans for 2 more tomorrow that are  around 10-12 miles out of town...
Here's some pictures from our HUNT today!  Not telling you where they are...  you've got to find them yourself!  Come join the fun!  If this is old news to you... tell us how you got involved and/or how many you've found so far!
Hope you are having a GREAT weekend.  Hug the ones you love ~

Lemon Pie Recipe

Here's a super-easy pie recipe for this week's Recipe Swap - it's

Lemon
Ice Box Pie
given to me by my ex-inlaw-great grandmother (LOL!) It's an Alabama recipe!
Thanks Ella Fae!  Tart, sweet, easy and great for a quick dessert on a "indian summer" night!

Lemon Ice Box Pie
1 Box Vanilla Wafer Cookies
3 Lemons (1/2 cup juice)
1 (14 oz.) Sweetened Condensed Milk
2 egg yolks; beaten

In a 9" pie plate; line bottom and edges with the vanilla wafer cookies to form a cookie crust. Juice the lemons (microwave each lemon for 15-20 seconds to yield more juice); in a medium bowl add lemon juice, condensed milk and egg yolks; mix until smooth.  Pour mixture into crust.  Refrigerate at least an hour; you can top pie with a meringue or whipped topping or enjoy just plain!   Serves 8-10  Enjoy!

Retro Weekend

For our "last weekend" before school starts -

We traveled to Amarillo for "school shoe" shopping!  We had great luck, found super bargains and "not too long" lines to check out in!  Having all boys; it's jeans, shirts, and shoes EVERY day!  Yahoo!  - For supper... my boys had to try the new "Chop House Cheddar Burger" at Whataburger - and they think that this was the BEST burger ever! LOL!

SATURDAY... Washed clothes, changed sheets, put the "Finishing Touches" to the classroom.  Ready for the 1st day of school... (hope!).

Plan to on SUNDAY... worship with Church family and REST before the first day of school on MONDAY - argh!

EACH NIGHT...
We had a family VIDEO night - RETRO STYLE!  We watched some great movies with the boys!

Now, our boys want dad to stay home from work and become Mr. Mom because they're too scared to swim or watch TV - LOL!  Classic movies are the best!  What are your favorite RETRO movie?  Let us know!

Wednesday Night Supper for 100!

WHEW!  This has been a hectic week... and it's only Thursday!  Last night, we cooked our annual meal of the year for our church family!  Guess this is year 5?! Every month, a family host the Wednesday night supper before church.  August was our month, this year our menu included Pasta with a choice of two toppings:  traditional Red Sauce or a classic Alfredo Chicken and Broccolli; green beans, salad, garlic toast and KV's infamous Kool aid Pie!

We cooked 12 lbs. of spaghetti noodles, used 8 cans of Hunts' spaghetti sauce, 10 lbs. ground beef, 8 jars of Ragu' Alfredo sauce, 8 lbs. chicken, 5 lbs. frozen chopped broccolli, 4 bags of hamburger buns, 3 LARGE cans of green beans, 5 sacks of salad mix, 6 Roma tomatoes and made 12 kool aid pies - WHEW!  Fed 108 people - YEAH!  And still had leftovers to take to several families that were under "doctor's care"!  LOL!  We are excited that it was done without any major fires or anyone seriously wounded!

Thank you to all that help!  No way that we could've done it by ourselves - especially the "Ging"!  We have an AWESOME church family that ALWAYS works well together as a team!  Thanks again!

So for this weekly "Recipe Swap" is an ancient family secret... two family traditions -
"Hunt's" and "Ragu' "

Is that cheating?  Or just making it possible for a working mother to still cook and feed her family without indulging in "fast food"! LOL!  You decide!  It's just a way of life for us!  Here's also a link to KV's infamous "Kool Aid Pie".   Hope you have a great day!  Thanks for coming by and reading!  Please say a positive prayer for my friend CRYSTAL - we are hoping that she receives GREAT news today about her health!  Hug the ones you love!
